Smartphone Composition Viewer Guide — Phone Camera Grid Overlay Setup
Clear composition grid cards that clip over your phone’s camera screen in 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1. No app, no settings — they work with your existing camera app, for photos and video.
Quick Fixes — Read This Before Returning

“The grid doesn’t line up with my camera screen.” Check three things, in this order:
- iOS version (iPhone only). Apple changed the camera screen between iOS 18 and iOS 26. Check Settings → General → About → iOS Version, and match it to your viewer (table below).
- Camera format. Each card is labelled with its aspect ratio — 16:9, 4:3 or 1:1. Set your camera to the same ratio as the card (in the camera app’s format or ratio setting). A 4:3 card on a 16:9 picture will never line up.
- Phone model. Check your screen size against the table.
- “It moves around.” Seat the attachment bands over the top and bottom of the phone, not the sides. Thick rugged cases and pop sockets may need to come off.
- “Can I still use the touchscreen?” Yes. Touch works through the card, and the cut-out leaves the shutter button uncovered.

Not sure of your screen size? It is listed in Settings → About phone (Samsung) or on your phone’s spec page. iPhone 17 models are supported. Apple’s folding iPhone is not supported yet.
How To Fit It
- Clean the screen so there is no dust under the overlay.
- Open the camera app and set the aspect ratio to match the card (16:9, 4:3 or 1:1).
- Lay the overlay over the screen, grid over the camera image, and slide the attachment bands around the phone.
- Nudge it until the grid border matches the edges of the live camera picture.
How To Use the Grids
The set includes Fibonacci Golden Spiral, Fibonacci Grid/Diagonals, Dynamic Symmetry, Harmonic Armature and Vanishing Point grids, each in 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1. Place your subject on a line or intersection and shoot. The free 80-page eBook that comes with your viewer explains each grid.
Looking After Your Viewer
- Polycarbonate with UV-bonded ink. Wipe with a microfibre cloth. Store in the pouch.
- Do not leave it on the phone while charging on a wireless pad or in a hot car.
When to Email Us
Email sales@clpa.au with your order number and a photo if your tool arrives damaged, you ordered the wrong size, or a printed line looks off-register. We make every tool in-house, so we can usually replace, exchange or quote a custom size faster than a return would take.

Unused items can be returned within 30 days of delivery in original condition — see our Refund Policy. Every CLPA tool carries a 12-month manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Bought on Amazon?
