Golden Ratio Templates — How to Use Fibonacci Drawing Templates

Quick Fixes — Read This Before Returning
- “It’s flexible, not rigid.” That’s deliberate. PETG bends around curved surfaces — vases, mugs, bowls — where rigid acrylic templates can’t. On flat paper, hold it down with your spare hand or low-tack tape.
- “It warped.” PETG softens above about 70°C (160°F) — irons, heat guns, kilns and hot car dashboards. We replace a heat-warped template once at no charge; email a photo and your order number.
- “My knife is cutting into the edge.” Use light, repeated passes and let the cut edge guide the blade. Heavy pressure scores the edge.
- “I wanted to divide lengths, not draw shapes.” That’s the No-Math Ruler guide.
Which Templates Do I Have?
Single templates: 6" Circle, Square, Star, Triangle, Pentagon, Hexagon, Oval and Fibonacci Spiral, and a 5" Square — each with six shapes stepping down in golden-ratio sizes. Sets: 2-piece Square and Spiral, 3-piece Triangle/Pentagon/Hexagon, Circle/Star/Square set, and the full 9-piece set.

Before You Start
- Legacy stock may have protective film — peel it before use. No film, you are ready.
- Have ready: a sharp pencil, fine pen or craft knife. Low-tack tape helps on slippery or curved surfaces.
- On glazed or oily surfaces, wipe clean first so pencil and ink hold.
How To Use a Golden Ratio Template
Trace a shape
- Place the template on the work, printed side up. On a curve, press it against the surface with your spare hand.
- Put your pencil or pen tip inside the cut window, against the edge, and run it all the way round.
- Lift the template. The shape is on your work.
Build a golden-ratio composition
Trace the largest shape first, then place a smaller one inside or beside it and trace again. Because every size steps down by the golden ratio, the layout looks balanced without measuring — useful for sketch layouts, sign work, quilt blocks and mixed media.
Use as a stencil
Hold the template with low-tack tape and apply paint, ink or marker through the window with a brush, sponge or spray. Wipe with isopropyl alcohol after solvent-based spray to stop fogging.
Looking After Your Templates
- Clean with isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirits. No acetone or abrasive cleaners.
- Store flat. If one has been curved around a vase for a long time, press it overnight between heavy books.
